Wainwright Way bridge is to be closed for two nights for essential maintenance.

The bridge, which has been undergoing refurbishment and routine maintenance, will be closed in both directions on Thursday and Friday (October 7 and 8) for essential joint repair.

Wainwright Bridge on Wainwright Way was originally opened in 2012 and forms part of the ring road around Blackburn.

It has had a paint job, boasting a blue and white colour scheme in tribute to Blackburn Rovers.

The bridge will close each night at 9pm and re-open at 9am in a bid to reduce disturbance.

A spokesperson for the council said: "The closures overnight on October 7 and 8 are for essential joint repair works and are part of the recent refurbishment scheme for Wainwright Bridge.

"Closure will start at 9pm to keep any disruption to a minimum."

"The bridge will be closed in both directions with a clearly marked diversion route in operation.

"The closure is from 9pm to 9am, however the contractor will work to minimise disruption."
