A manhunt has been launched for a suspect accused of slashing his ex-girlfriend's throat.
Police took the unusual step of releasing the details of Martin Lacey after allegations that he had tried to get into her home last week.
And officers said there had been reports that Lacey had since made threats towards the woman via members of her family.
Back in November, Lacey, 34, from Blackburn, is alleged to have tricked his former partner into letting him into her car, police said.
When she started to drive, police said they believed Lacey punched her in the face, before pulling a knife out and cutting her throat.
She managed to stop the car and escape in Hancock Street, Blackburn on Friday, November 2 at 10.15am The woman was taken to Royal Blackburn Hospital by ambulance where she received stitches for the gaping injury.
Police said she has now made a full physical recovery, although the mental strain of the ordeal continues.
The woman, who is too frightened to speak about the "terrifying ordeal", is now said to be a prisoner in her own home and is living in fear for her life.
Police have circulated Lacey's details nationally and are appealing for help in finding the man who they say is "dangerous".
Measures have been put in place in a bid to protect both the woman and members of her family.
Detective Inspector Jim Elston, who is leading the hunt, said: "While this was a violent and vicious assault, I would like to reassure members of the public that this was not a random attack.
"We believe it was committed by a man who was known to the woman.
"While she has recovered from her physical injuries, she has been left extremely traumatised by the ordeal.
"Obviously, while Lacey remains outstanding her anxiety and vulnerability is heightened although she is being supported by the police and domestic violence workers.
"I urge anyone with information about the whereabouts of Lacey to not approach him but to contact the police immediately."
Lacey is described as 34 years old, 5ft 9ins, heavy build, with thinning short hair.
Anyone with information about the whereabouts of Lacey is asked to contact police on 0845 1 25 35 45 quoting log reference number 80eq/021107 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
