FIVE people have been taken to court and fined over the last six weeks after failing to ensure that their children regularly attended the school they are registered to.
Some of the children - who are all of compulsory school attendance age - had been kept off for months, while others just a matter of days.
However, the courts took a dim view and fined each of the parents responsible several hundreds of pounds.
The names of the five parents are:
1. Linda Barr, of Rothesay Road, Blackburn
Barr is the parent of a primary school pupil who was continually absent between September 21, 2020 and March 12, 2021.
She was ordered to a fine totalling £634 and had until September 14 to pay in full.
2. Kelly Llewllyn, of Holst Gardens, Blackburn
Llewllyn is the parent of a primary school pupil who was absent between March 22, 2021 and March 29, 2021.
She was ordered to pay a fine totalling £404 and has until October 5 to pay in full.
3. Hamida Summers, of High Street, Blackburn
Summers is the parent of a primary school pupil who was absent between March 15, 2021 and March 19, 2021.
She too was ordered to pay a fine totalling £404 and has until October 5 to pay in full.
4. Stacey Murphy, of Whitehaven Close, Blackburn
Murphy is the parent of a high school pupil who failed to attend school between March 18, 2021 and April 26, 2021.
She was ordered to pay a fine totalling £634 and has until October 5 to pay in full.
5. Jade Garswood, of Marlton Road, Blackburn
Garswood is the parent of a high school pupil who failed to attend school between November 2, 2020 and March 15, 2021.
She was ordered to pay a fine totalling £404 and has until October 5 to pay in full.
