Temporary traffic lights have been left in place over the weekend on a busy Blackburn road when it appears the work has finished.

The traffic controls were put in place last week on Buncer Lane and it appears the work on the pavement has finished.

The safety barriers have been taken down and are piled on the ground.

According to the road works map accessible through the council website the work is being carried out by United Utilities between September 23 and September 27. United Utilities confirmed that leak repair work had been carried out.

A resident who lives nearby said: “This is just lazy on the part of the contractor. You can quite easily put these lights aside on Friday night. It is causing disruption for motorists.

Lancashire Telegraph:

“On Monday morning the school traffic here is horrendous and this is going to make it worse.

“If they are still working then why are the safety barriers piled up?”

After the Lancashire Telegraph contacted United Utilities the company confirmed that the lights now would be removed on Sunday (September 26).

This is not the first time United Utilities have been called out for leaving traffic management systems in place when no work appears to be taking place.

In July on Redlam the company apologised and said they had been replacing a customer’s service pipe. Whilst the work had been completed on one side the traffic lights had been left in place over the whole weekend when they could have been taken down and placed on the side of the road.
