AN EAST Lancashire pub has been named one of the best in the country.

The Parkers Arms, a multi-award-winning historic inn based in Newton-in-Bowland, has been recognised as one of the best places to eat in England.

The former coach house was taken over by in 2007 by chef-patron Stosie Madi and managing director Kathy Smith, who are this year celebrating 14 years in business.

They describe the venue as offering modern British food using the finest regional produce, an eclectic selected wine list, real ales and ensuite rooms with views.

Global travel site Big 7 Travel released its annual list of 'The 50 Best Gastropubs In The UK' which was was determined from a combined score of reader's suggestions throughout the year, online user reviews and Big 7 Travel's editorial team.

From London boozers with creative small plates to local country inns boasting a Michelin Star, the list highlights the places shining a light on regional British ingredients.

Coming in at number one was the Sportsman in Kent, followed by the Broad Chare in Newcastle, the Wild Rabbit in the Cotswolds, the Coach in Buckinghamshire, and the Dog and Gun Inn in Cumbria.
