Three men have been arrested and are awaiting interview after being caught in an uninsured car with a large amount of cannabis.

Officers from the Ribble Valley rural task force were on patrol in West Craven on Sunday evening when a suspicious vehicle attempted to evade them.

After turning down a dead end road, the car was stopped by police and the driver was arrested.

However, police became even more suspcious and carried out a search of the car only to find a large amount of cannabis hidden in the vehicle.

Along with the driver, who is being investigated for driving under the influence of drugs, the two passengers were also arrested and after spending the night in the cells, are awaiting interview this morning (Monday).

A spokesperson for the police said: "On Sunday evening officers from the Ribble Valley Rural Task Force were on patrol in West Craven when a suspicious car has attempted to evade us.

"A short time later we located the car and the driver kindly turned down a dead end road in what appeared to be a poor attempt at giving us the slip.

"He was detained without incident.

"Unfortunately for him the car wasn't insured so that has been seized and he has been reported for having no insurance.

"Matters got worse for the driver and two passengers when a large quantity of cannabis was found hidden in the car.

"All three are now in the cells awaiting interview in the morning.

"To cap a bad day off the driver is also under investigation for driving under the influence of drugs."
