The driver of a Mercedes was arrested twice after undertaking a police vehicle on the motorway while over the drink drive limit.

On Sunday evening, an unmarked patrol car was travelling on the M6 close to Lancaster.

A Mercedes, pictured, undertook the police vehicle at a very high speed, before officers spotted the driver continuing to undertake several more vehicles.

Police pursued the car and stopped it at Forton services.

The driver was breathalysed and arrested for being twice over the drink drive limit.

His Mercedes was also seized.

A spokesperson for the police said: "A busy M6 near Lancaster when this Mercedes undertook an unmarked patrol at high speed.

"They continued at high speed undertaking several more vehicles before being stopped at Forton services.

"Driver arrested for being twice over the drink drive limit and vehicle seized."

Later, police discovered the driver had caused criminal damage in Blackpool and had also made-off from a store without paying.

He was arrested again on different charges.

The spokesperson added: "Driver subsequently found to have caused damage in Blackpool and making-off without payment and was further arrested."
