POLICE are waiting to interview an elderly driver who was involved in a fatal collision.
Elizabeth Jephson, 79, was killed when her blue Rover 25 collided head-on with a black Mercedes CDi on the A671 Accrington Road at Whalley.
Mrs Jephson, who lived in Barrow, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The 70-year-old man driving the Mercedes suffered only minor injuries, but police say he remains in deep shock.
Sergeant Pete Sculpher said: "The motorist suffered from shock as a results of the road traffic accident, and we will be looking to interview him at some time in the future when he is fit to do so."
Police expect to interview the pensioner, who is from the Read area, in the next four to six weeks.
They have appealed for witnesses, particularly for a doctor who stopped at the scene, near the Springwood picnic site at about 5.30pm on Wednesday, January 2.
Sgt Sculpher added: "The doctor spoke to the ambulance service at the scene and left before police attendance and I urge him to come forward.
"I urge anyone who witnessed the accident, or saw any of the cars involved before the collision, to get in touch and contact police on 0845 1 25 35 45."
