A SPECIAL service is to run through Lancashire to mark 40 years since stream trains last saw daily service.
In 1968 steam locomotives ended their reign hauling passenger and freight trains, and Preston and Burnley were among the last areas in the country where they operated.
Now Kingfisher Railtours is running a locomotive used in the area during the steam days - LMS 8F No. 48151 - to take passengers on a tour through the area and into York.
The trip, on March 1, will start at Carnforth, coming down through Lancaster, Preston, Blackburn, and Burnley, before tackling the steep gradient at Copy Pit, south of Burnley, for its journey to York.
