THERE is something particularly nostalgic about photographs of old petrol stations don’t you think? Taken in 1978, this picture shows Chatburn Service Station on Clitheroe Road.
There is still a garage on the site today which is across the road from Shackleton’s Garden Centre. The bungalow is still there, although a large canopy protects drivers from the elements now and the large trees directly behind the single storey building have long gone.
It’s always interesting to see how the price of petrol has changed - 79p for a gallon of four star compared to around £1.31 for a litre of unleaded today.
