Local Under 8's football team, Fenny Reccers FC, are celebrating after the Butlers Arms owners and manager Richard Walkden generously donated two brand new kits for them to wear this season, as well as contributing significantly to a further 25 waterproof training tops, one for every squad player.
Reccers, who have been together now for nearly two years and have two teams of Under 8's in the Blackburn with Darwen Junior league, play all their home matches at the Feniscowles War Memorial on Sunday mornings. All the children are currently from the Fensicowles and Pleasington area, most of them attending Feniscowles School itself.
"We are enjoying providing the opportunity for boys to play football locally in a safe environment, which is sometimes competitive, but always inclusive. Without support from the community it becomes expensive having two teams, so we are really grateful to Richard and his family for helping out. We were very fortunate too that the trustees at the War Memorial were able to provide us with our own mini pitch and we hope to be able to keep it as our home pitch for many years to come." Says Blue manager Mike Caton.
Reccers Blues are currently fifth in their league and Reccers Reds sixth. If anybody would like to join then please contact Mike Caton on 209250. Both Reccers' teams are particularly on the look out for anybody who enjoys playing in goal.
