A MURDER hunt has been launched after a teenager was stabbed to death in a street attack.
The 19-year-old was found lying in Brook Street, Todmorden - close to the Post office - at 9.15pm on Wednesday night.
He was taken to Rochdale Hospital where he died from his injuries at 2.10am today.
Police said that the young man had been in nearby Water Street when he was first attacked and the altercation then continued into Brook Street.
They believe the man died from stab wounds. An official post-mortem is due to take place this afternoon.
CCTV footage from the area is currently being scrutinised.
DS Chris Thompson, of West Yorkshire Police, said: "We believe this was a targeted attack; that the deceased was the intended victim and that the attackers knew who they were looking for."
Police are asking the driver of a maroon Rover, with a registration starting R999, that was seen in the vicinity of the attack to contact them. They are also urging anyone who may have seen something to come forward.
DS Thompson added: "The car had a very distinctive number plate. It may or may not have been involved, but we would like to speak to those who were inside it.
"The area was reasonably busy for that time of night and there will have been people quite independent of the incident who may have relevant information."
Police are not identifying the man until family members have been informed.
Information should be given to police in Calderdale on 01422 337085.
