A loving, hard-working father-of-one and step-father-of-two died in a tragic accident after falling from a balcony while on holiday in Ibiza.
An inquest in Preston heard that Nathan Aspin, 33, from Blackburn, had been out with his family, including son Blake, in the resort of Santa Eulalia on the evening of August 15, before returning to his hotel room with wife Natalie at around 10.30pm.
Coroner Richard Taylor said: "He went onto the balcony, out of sight of his wife when she heard a noise and found when she went out to look that he had fallen onto a hard surface some 20-30ft below.
"Police and paramedics were called but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
"A medical cause of death was offered as traumatic shock from poly-trauma."
Reading from a statement prepared by Mrs Aspin, Mr Taylor said that Nathan, who lived in Hurst Green with his family, was a 'fun, caring, hard-working, loving father and husband, who was popular and well-known'.
He suffered with asthma but had never been diagnosed with any mental health issues and was generally a fit and active person.
Mr Taylor continued: "Natalie talks about going out with another family on August 15, and speaks about Nathan being upset by something he had read on social media, but he seemed to calm down after a while.
"He had a moderate amount of alcohol, and Natalie said he had been arguing with himself in the bedroom and someone from the hotel had knocked on the door to ask if everything was alright.
"He told them yes, that he was fine, and he went to lie down on the bed.
"He then told Natalie he was going to have a fag outside on the balcony.
"She thinks she heard a noise, like the moving of furniture, and when she went and checked she found he had fallen from the balcony."
Natalie said she firmly believed that it was simply misadventure and that he would never have done anything deliberate.
Mr Taylor recorded a conclusion of accidental death and said: "I can only express significant sympathy for Mrs Aspin and her family at this time and I fully appreciate that she didn't want to attend today.
"There's no evidence before me that he intended to end his life.
"His judgement may have been affected and I can't say this is anything other than a very sad accident and make a finding that Nathan died on August 15, in Ibiza, from injuries sustained when he fell from the balcony of his hotel room."
Heartbreak and devastation as 33-year-old Nathan Aspin dies in tragic accident on holiday in Ibiza
Following Nathan's death, fundraisers were set up to help raise enough money to fly the 33-year-old home and pay for his funeral, with the total from the two pages raising more than £12,000.
Nathan arrived back in the UK around August 23, and his funeral took place on Friday September 3.
In tribute to Nathan, who was a gas engineer and ran his own business in East Lancashire, friend Joe Szejner said: “Where do I start? What do I even say?
“I’ve been pretty lost for words all day.
“How is it I was talking to you yesterday, and now I’m writing this?!
“I’m utterly devastated and broken right now.
“I really don’t think anything written can truly represent what an absolute gent, a great father, a true friend and amazing person you were.
“You were a beacon of light in a dark world and it’s heartbreaking knowing you’re no longer here.
“I can’t believe we’ll no longer be cracking jokes together or making memories.
“I never in a million years thought I’d be writing this, but as I am, know you were loved by many, and you’ll be missed by all.
“Nathan Aspin. The man. The myth. The legend. I love you mate, it's been an absolute honour and pleasure being your friend. Sleep tight.”
Ryan Botterill posted on Facebook: “Love you bro, more than you will ever know.”
And Tom Marsh said: “Not often people make an instant/lasting impression on me but Nathan Aspin did.
“Such a warm, fun, smiley and positive lad. I always had time for him.
“His spouse Natalie is always someone we like to see and my heart is completely with her and their gorgeous little boy Blake.”
