Blackpool’s World Firework Championships are set to kick off this weekend.
Last year, the competition had to be cancelled due to coronavirus restrictions – but it’s back with a bang this year and with revised dates and a new launch pad.
Four stunning displays, all set to music, will take place over the promenade in front of The Blackpool Tower on alternate Saturday evenings starting this Saturday, September 11 and continuing on September 25, October 9 and October 23.
The first event will see a display from Russia, followed by Ireland and Germany, with the fourth Saturday a showcase event by one of Europe’s leading fireworks companies, Titanium.
The free displays will start at around 8.30pm each night subject to prevailing winds and weather conditions.
A VisitBlackpool spokesperson said: “Over the years, World Fireworks Championship Blackpool has become one of our most popular events and we are delighted to be back after missing out last year.
“We hope that by moving the fireworks to Saturdays it will give people more time to come into the Blackpool during the daytime and enjoy some of the many other attractions on offer before watching the fireworks finale and then enjoying the magic of the Illuminations and free projection shows.”
The event starts from 7.30pm, with the first fireworks firing from approximately 8:30pm.
What else is happening in Blackpool later this year?
VisitBlackpool has already announced an extended Illuminations season running through to January 3, 2022.
Over the four-month period there will be a huge range of events and attractions to enjoy including Nickelodeon’s SLIMEFEST and the fortnight-long Lightpool Festival.
From November onwards, there will be a brand new Christmas In Blackpool programme starting with the FriendsFestive exhibition in the Winter Gardens and continuing with a giant yuletide market and a seafront Christmas village incorporating ice rink, snowfalls and dazzling projection shows.
