The driver of a Renault Clio was arrested after he was chased by police in a late night pursuit.

On Tuesday evening, officers from Blackburn's neighbourhood taskforce spotted the red vehicle driving through the town after being given information about the car by immediate response officers.

They followed the vehicle and signalled for it to stop.

However, the driver failed to acknowledge the police request and sped off, resulting in a pursuit through Blackburn before it was eventually brought to a halt.

Upon inspection it was found the driver was actually disqualified and he was duly arrested.

PC Nicola James of Blackburn's neighbourhood policing team said: "Tonight officers from the neighbourhood taskforce have sighted a red Renault Clio which was passed for observation from the immediate response officers.

"On the taskforce getting behind the vehicle and signalling for it to stop, the vehicle failed to stop and a short pursuit ensued before the vehicle finally stopped.

"The male driver was spoken to and admitted to driving whilst disqualified.

"He was detained and is currently sat at Greenbank police station awaiting interview for several motoring offences.

"With the vital information that you share with police we can tackle road safety and those committing offences using the roads."
