THE Royal Lancashire Show will take place at Barton, near Garstang, after planning chiefs granted permission for the event to go ahead.
Plans submitted to Wyre Borough Council by the Duchy of Lancaster Estate for a permanent show site were met with strong opposition from local residents, but councillors eventually gave them the go ahead.
The three-day event at Head Nook Quarry is due to start on July 18, and the show has permission to take place at the site until 2010.
The new show site can be used for up to 28 days a year, which means that other events can be held on the land.
Last year's event at Salesbury Hall, Ribchester, was cancelled due to torrential rain that water-logged the site.
