A TEENAGER smashed windows at a friend’s home in a dispute over money.
Blackburn magistrates heard the friend’s mother was in the house with a 12-year-old child when Lewis Barnes carried out a threat he had made a week earlier.
Barnes, 19, of Pleasington Lane, Pleasington, pleaded guilty to damaging two double-glazed windows and a television belonging to Susan Johnson. He was fined £120 with £200 compensation, £85 costs and £34 victim surcharge.
Stacey Morrow, prosecuting, said Mrs Johnson was at home at about 3.15pm when she heard a loud bang. She looked out of the bedroom window and saw a group of youths across the road who were laughing.
“She heard another loud bang and realised her living room window had just been smashed,” said Miss Morrow.
“The incident was caught on CCTV which showed the defendant using a bat to smash the windows.”
Miss Morrow said the victim heard a conversation between her son and the defendant in which he had said the windows would get smashed.
Richard Prew, defending, said the defendant’s father had already agreed to pay compensation to Mrs Johnson which was acceptable to her. He said his client and her son had been good friends but there was a dispute over money.
