SIXTH-formers in East Lancashire helped to put the county in the top 10 in the UK for its A level results.
Lancashire County Council, which covers schools and colleges in Hyndburn, Ribble Valley, Burnley, Pendle and Rossendale, is ranked ninth out of more than 150 authorities thanks to the achievements of students. The authority's overall average points per entry is 213.2, almost six points higher than the national score of 207.5.
Bacup and Rawtenstall Grammar School (BRGS) and Clitheroe Royal Grammar School contributed to the success by again being listed in the top 200 state schools in the country.
Marc Morris, headmaster of BRGS in Waterfoot said: "The results represent another record year for BRGS. We are delighted with the overall success of the students and it is a reflection of the dedication and hard work that is brought to the partnership by the students, staff and parents. Congratulations to all concerned!"
With no schools in the top 200 list, Blackburn with Darwen borough has dropped to 121st in the country, with an average point score of 202.5.
