A MAN who committed a house burglary was on the receiving end of "summary justice" from the victim, a court was told.
Hugh McGeough had gone out with a balaclava, gloves and a kitchen knife.
He broke into an address on Fecitt Brow, Blackburn, went on to take the family car, but ended up crashing into a tree.
The 27-year-old was jailed for three years when he appeared at Preston Crown Court.
He was given two and a half years for the burglary, which he had admitted, plus six months on top for breaching community orders.
McGeough pleaded guilty to burglary, committed in August of last year.
The court heard that McGeough, of Delph Approach, Blackburn, had gone out late at night or in the early hours, with a balaclava, gloves and a kitchen knife. He broke into the house, looking for items of value to steal.
He found keys to the family car and tried to take the vehicle, only to have a crash.
Wayne Jackson, defending, said: "He makes no excuses. It is fairly clear some form of justice was meted out that night, but the defendant does not complain about that. He thinks it was wholly deserved, under the circumstances."
