A COUPLE have been given permission to reposition roof lights and change windows at their historic barn conversion in a West Pennine village.
Djemel Salah-Bay-Carr and Jennifer Cain can now make the alterations to the properties in Blackburn Road in Turton.
Blackburn with Darwen Council planning committee approved the changes to the original planning permission for the conversion of Hob Lane Farm Barns.
An officer's report told councillors: "The fundamental changes proposed to the development previously approved are the repositioning of roof lights, and the re-opening of a first floor window in the south
elevation, and alterations to the west elevation by way of changes to the roof design and removal of the large triangular feature window in the west facing gable.
"When the applicants purchased the barns a restrictive covenant was put in place which does not allow for any clear glazing above ground level, including roof lights to the north and west elevations if they can
be seen from the substantially completed dwelling, called White House Farm. The alterations proposed seek to minimise the impact of the covenant."
Ms Cain appeared before the committee to ask for the amendments to be agreed saying: "We are building our first home together."
The planning officer's report concluded: "The granting of the development does not result in any significant harm to the amenity of neighbouring residents nor will it cause any detrimental impact to the character and appearance of the proposed dwelling or the surrounding area."
