A THIEF who refused to do a community order wanted jail instead and was granted his wish by Burnley magistrates.
Karl Reyner, 35, stole wallets from Marks and Spencer, intending to sell them to raise cash to buy his daughter a birthday present, the court was told.
Reyner, of Reed Street, Burnley, admitted theft. He was jailed for 30 days.
Sue Campbell, prosecuting, said Reyner was "no stranger to the court", and had similar previous convictions.
John Nuttall, defending, said Reyner would not comply with any community sentence. He said: "The court has little option but to impose an immediate sentence of imprisonment. He understands and accepts that and would invite you to do so."
