THE Tories' prospective parliamentary candidate for Rossendale and Darwen, Jake Berry, has had to call off a charity trip to Kenya.
Jake, 29, had planned the visit with his brother-in-law, Vincent, who was brought up in Nairobi.
But the deteriorating political situation there has forced him to cancel.
Over the last few months, Jake and Vincent have been working to collect spectacles for an eye clinic near Mombasa.
Violent politically-charged riots have lead to a number of deaths in Kenya.
Jake said: "As you can imagine, this is particularity worrying for Vincent as his whole family are living in Nairobi.
"We have spoken to the eye clinic which has told us the need for used spectacles is now greater than ever."
