A pub singer hit a duff note with a scout leader who overheard him talking about Burnley at the bar of a Whalley pub.
Blackburn magistrates heard that Vaughan Keith Presho told the entertainer not to "take the Mick out of Burnley" before head-butting him.
Presho, 39, of Hameldon Close, Hapton, pleaded guilty to assaulting Paul McHallen.
He was given a conditional discharge for nine months and ordered to pay £50 compensation and £70 costs.
Emma Keogh, prosecuting, said Mr McHallen was working as a singer in the pub and was talking to members of the audience.
"He was explaining he was from Burnley when he heard Presho say he shouldn't take the Mick out of Burnley," said Mrs Keogh.
"As he said he wasn't the defendant head-butted him."
Clare Knight, defending, said Presho had been on a Christmas party.
He had been drinking but wasn't drunk.
She said Presho had no previous convictions and was a hard-working family man.
"He has been a cub and scout leader for many years and this conviction will have some consequences for him," added Miss Knight.
