A new documentary focusing on the murder of Lindsay Birbeck is to air on television tomorrow evening.

As part of a six-part series, the second episode of the third season of Britain’s Deadliest Kids, will be shown on Quest Red at 10pm.

The documentary focuses on the murder of the Accrington mum, featuring interviews with her ex-husband, Tim Birbeck, daughter Sarah, Lancashire Telegraph journalist, Amy Farnworth, and DSI Andy Cribbin.

Lancashire Telegraph:

In the documentary, which is also available to stream now on discovery+, DSI Cribbin, who led the investigation into Lindsay's murder, describes the shocking moment he watched CCTV footage of 16-year-old Rocky Price moving Lindsay’s body inside a wheelie bin in broad daylight after viciously killing her.

Also in the documentary, Lindsay's family speak out for the first time, and reveal the moment they came face-to-face with Rocky Price in court as he stood trial for her murder.

The 47-year-old mum-of-two worked as a teaching assistant, and following a recent divorce, had started a new chapter in her life.

However, on Monday August 12 2019, Lindsay’s family reported her missing, and following extensive searches by the police and local community, her body was found buried in a shallow grave in Accrington Cemetery 12 days later.

In the documentary, reporter Amy Farnworth, said: "There was an air of panic in the community - people wanted answers.

"Who has done this? Did people in the community need to be worried?

“Should lone females be worried? Should people be keeping their doors locked? It was a very unnerving time, I would say.”

DSI Cribbin says discovering the main suspect was a 16-year-old boy was a shocking twist in the tale.

He said: “We interviewed Rocky over a number of days and he replied no comment to all questions asked.”

After everything they had been through, the revelation was also a shock for the Birbeck family.

Lancashire Telegraph:

Tim Birbeck said: "The police said, ‘we’ve got a lad in custody.’

"And as time went on they said ‘he’s 16-years-old'.

"Even myself, I went ’16 years old? My daughter is 17, he’s younger than my children'.”

Price stood trial in January 2020 after pleading not guilty to Lindsay's murder, before proceedings were halted and a re-trial ordered for August that same year.

According to Tim, Price's body language throughout the trial suggested that he was resigned to defeat.

He said: "He was slouched in his chair, his hands in his pockets.

"To me, it was like he was going through a routine. He knew what was going to be the outcome.”

Rocky Price was given a life sentence and ordered to serve a minimum of 16 years, although a motive for the murder was never revealed.

Reflecting on the sentence, DSI Cribbin agreed that the punishment fit the crime.

He said: “Rocky, in my mind, is a very dangerous young man.

"The only person who can tell us what his motive was is Rocky, and Rocky hasn’t done so.”

Criminologist Professor David Wilson suggested Price’s motivation to commit murder may have been sexual, although the pathologist who examined Lindsay’s body wasn’t able to rule out if there had been sexual activity, and he wondered if it was sexual activity that Rocky was initially seeking as opposed to murder.

Lancashire Telegraph:

He said: "For me, the murder itself seems to be a by-product of the killer wanting to engage sexually with a woman.”

Britain’s Deadliest Kids is available to stream now as a boxset on discovery+, with episodes also airing weekly on Quest Red.
