AN INVESTIGATION is under way into the death of a young father-of-two who suffered severe head injuries in a fall outside a party.
Vincent Biriny, 27, sustained the injuries when he fell in Old Accrington Road, Burnley, after attending a New Year's party, and died in hospital at the weekend when his family agreed to turn off his life-support machine.
Police said they were treating his death as unexplained' and appealed for witnesses who were in the area in the early hours of January 1 to come forward.
They said that the electrician had been involved in a dispute with another party-goer before his fall, but they are unsure as to the exact circumstances.
Mr Biriny, who shared his time between his mum's house in Nairne Street and his partner's in Comrie Crescent, was first taken to the Royal Blackburn Hospital before then being transferred to the Royal Preston Hospital with severe head injuries.
The family made the decision to turn off his life support on Saturday January 5 after doctors said his brain 'was so badly damaged he would not last more than three days."
He had two children with partner Charlotte Jorgensen, Thomas aged four and Victoria aged 16 weeks.
His mum, Linda, said the difficult' decision to turn off the life support machine came seven days before Vincent's son was due to celebrate his fifth birthday, which is on Saturday.
She said: "It was one of the hardest decisions ever".
Mr Biriny, who has two younger brothers and two sisters, was at a friend's party in a house in Accrington Old Road, with brother Michael, 21, before he fell.
Ms Biriny said: "He was determined in everything he did and got on with everything in life.He was an outgoing, kind person who loved everybody".
He worked for Stannard Homes, and his mother said his employers have volunteered to pay for the funeral. A post mortem examination is due to be carried out and an inquest has been opened.
Detectives are intervie-wing witnesses at the party attended by the former Towneley High student.
DCI Paul Withers said: "We know that Mr Biriny attended a party on Old Accrington Road near to the Trinity Towers Apartments."
