Recently in Looking Back we ran a photograph showing the two lodges at the gates to one of East Lancashire’s most impressive private residences - Woodfold Hall.
Taken in 1992, this aerial view gives you an indication of the scale of the former home of Elma Yerburgh, daughter of Blackburn brewer Daniel Thwaites, who took control of the brewery following her father’s death in 1888.
The house had been unoccupied for more than 30 years when this picture was taken and nature was gradually reclaiming this once magnificent building.
Fortunately the hall, near Mellor, has been redeveloped with many original features retained, and houses a number of luxury apartments
