A ELDERLY pedestrian has been seriously injured after being involved in a collision with a van.
The woman, in her 80s, was taken to Royal Blackburn Hospital following the accident, involving a white Renault van in Shakespeare Avenue, Great Harwood, at 5.40pm today.
A man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of drink driving and other motoring offences. The vehicle was seized by police for forensic examination Police believe the van had been turning into Shakespeare Avenue from Blackburn Road when the accident happened.
Sgt Mick Young, of the road policing unit, said: "The elderly lady was left with very serious injuries. She was lying in the road when ambulance staff reached her.
"We would urge anyone who may have seen the van prior to the accident, or who may have witnessed the incident, to get in touch with us."
