A VILLAGE pub is to undergo major investment after its latest landlord left the premises following a short spell in charge.
New tenants took over the Feildens Arms in Mellor Brook in March, hoping to revive the landmark pub after its former landlord called time on the business during the height of lockdown.
However it has now been confirmed those tenants have left the pub – making them the latest in a long string of people to have tried and failed at keeping the premises up and running.
Star Pubs and Breweries, the pub arm of Heineken and owners of the building, now intends on investing in the venue over the coming year. It is also on the lookout for a new licensee to help create a ‘fantastic local pub’.
A representative for the company told the Lancashire Telegraph: “We are developing plans for a major investment programme for the Feildens Arms in 2022 to create a fantastic local pub and look forward to sharing details in due course.
“As part of these plans we will be looking for a new licensee who shares our vision to take on the pub.”
In the meantime, a new temporary operator has been drafted in to keep the establishment open and serving customers.
Since the pub re-opened after restrictions on the hospitality industry were eased in May, many living in the village of Mellor Brook have complained about noise and music coming from inside the building after hours.
Star Pubs and Breweries did not confirm nor deny why the latest tenants had left the building.
The spokesman added: “The Feildens Arms is now closed for a couple of days but will reopen as soon as possible and looks forwards to welcoming customers back then.”
It is understood that the pub will reopen by Friday.
