STAFF at an off-licence have spoken of their fear after a colleague was subjected to a "terrifying" knifepoint robbery.

The victim, a young mum in her early 20s, had a knife pushed into her side as the robber forced her to hand over almost £100 in cash from the till.

Two men had burst into Boozebusters in Burnley Road, Accrington, shortly before 10pm on Wednesday, just as the store was about to close.

One ran behind the counter to confront the woman while the other acted as a lookout.

Staff yesterday spoke of their shock at the raid.

One woman, who asked not to be named, said: "We are all really scared by what happened.

"It must have been a harrowing ordeal and it has made me worry about working behind the till on my own.

"We are all just shell-shocked at the moment and trying to come to terms with what has happened."

The shop, which is at the junction with Sydney Street, opens from 10am to 10pm each day.

Detectives investigating the robbery said the two men made off with £100 towards the Avenue Parade area.

And they are urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward.

Det Sgt Zoe Russo said: "The staff member has been left extremely shaken as a result of this."

The first robber is described as white, possibly east European, wearing a light coloured bubble jacket, light coloured trousers, dark trainers and a dark cap.

The second had his face obscured with a dark scarf but was also white, wearing a dark jacket with a hood.

Anyone with information is urged to contact police on 01254 353742.
