A driver and passenger who dumped a settee and other rubbish in a back alley have been slammed by residents.

The incident was caught on CCTV and shows a small white van pulling up behind Lambeth Street in the Audley area of Blackburn. Two people get out and dump the rubbish before quickly driving off.

The rubbish was dumped on Friday July 2 at 3pm.

Cllr Altaf Patel said he was contacted following the incident.

He said: “A few residents have spoken to me about this.

“I would urge everyone to put your own rubbish in the recycling centre. They are open and the team there will help you dispose of your rubbish properly.

“It is shocking they would do this in broad daylight. I was contacted by the residents following the incident.

“We then checked the CCTV and saw this.”

Mr Patel it was disheartening after people in the community, the mosque and other volunteers had spent time keeping the streets and alleyways clean.

He said: “We go to great lengths to clean the streets. Just a few weeks back residents cleaned the streets and it is disappointing people can do this.

“We are all trying our best to clean the back alleys and collected a lot of bin bags. The whole community has been active.”

In April the ‘Community Litter Pick’ organised by the Masjide Noorul Islam saw volunteers cover a 500m radius of the Audley and Queens Park area cleaning almost 100 streets in the process and collecting 250 bags of rubbish.

The Keep Audley Tidy (KAT) group then collected a further 132 bags in one afternoon with 60 volunteers back on the streets.

It was one of several neighbourhood projects that aimed to clear the streets of rubbish.
