A MOTORIST reported to the police was found to be over the limit for cannabis, cocaine and its metabolite.

Blackburn magistrates heard Samuel Gould-Woolley claimed he had not realised how long the drugs would remain in his system.

Gould-Woolley, 25, of Salthill Road, Clitheroe, pleaded guilty to driving while over the legal limit for cannabis, cocaine and benzoylecgonine. He was fined £120 with £85 costs and £34 victim surcharge and banned from driving for 12 months.

Steven Woodman, prosecuting, said police were contacted at 6.20pm by a civilian about an intoxicated driver on Burnley Road, Accrington, and provided the car registration.

When officers arrived they saw the car leaving a petrol station and stopped it nearby.

"The officers could smell cannabis and the defendant admitted smoking a joint earlier," said Mr Woodman. "A roadside test was positive for cannabis and also revealed the presence of cocaine."

Jonathan Taylor, defending, said his client didn't realise the drugs would still be in his system.

"He owns a cafe in Waddington and has been badly hit by the pandemic," said Mr Taylor.
