POLICE who arrested a man after an alleged hit-and-run are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.

The 25-year-old from Darwen, has been bailed until the end of the month after being questioned about the incident, in the early hours of New Year's Day.

Martin Flaherty, 17, was on his way to a house party when he was knocked down by a black Nissan Navara pick-up truck travelling on Blackburn Road, Darwen, at 1.30am.

He regained consciousness on Wednesday and gave police details of the incident from his hospital bed.

But yesterday, he took a turn for the worse when he developed internal bleeding.

Martin, from the Anchor estate, was carried on the truck's bonnet and windscreen for more than 100 yards before he fell to side of the road.

Police said the Nissan sped off towards Blackburn from the scene at the Hollins Road and Lynwood Avenue junctions. He was taken to Royal Blackburn Hospital with multiple injuries.

Sergeant Pete Sculpher from Eastern Division's Road Policing Unit said: "We arrested a 25-year-old man from Darwen and he was interviewed in custody before being released on unconditional bail on Wednesday.

"We are not looking for anyone else in relation to the incident."

Police are still appealing for any further witnesses who may be able to assist to get in touch with them by calling 01254 51212 and speaking to Sergeant Mick Young of Accrington Road Policing Unit.
