A FORMER Darwen teacher has been awarded an OBE for services to education.
Prof Geoff Southworth, who worked at St James CE Primary School, was recognised for his outstanding contribution to education.
Prof Southworth, 60, was a teacher for 16 years, and also worked at Whittle-le-Woods CE Primary, Seven Stars Junior, Leyland - where he was headteacher - and Lostock Hall, Preston.
Prof Southworth said: "I am very pleased to receive this honour, not only for personal reasons, but also because of what it conveys about the importance of education."
