TAXI fares across Pendle are set to rise in 2008 - but will remain far lower than the national average for cab rides.
Public consultations are ongoing for the increases, which have been suppor-ted by Pendle Taxi Association, and follow recent rises by private hire cabs locally.
Hackney carriage fares in the borough are among the lowest in the UK, according to industry figures. The tariff increases will depend on when a passenger chooses to take their journey - the basic fare will increase from £2 to £3.
Then £1.40 per mile, or part-mile, will be levied.
Late-night tariffs rise to £5 for the first two miles and proportionate increa-ses have been suggested for public holiday fares, affecting Christmas and New Year. Both would remain under the national average.
The waiting time charge will increase from 10p to 20p, under the proposals, and the rate imposed for cleaning up a taxi rises from £20 to £50.
Councillors have signalled their support for the increases, subject to the outcome of public consultations over the changes.
