And for people wishing to holiday that little bit closer to home, or for those just needing a night away from their own four walls, they could look no further than their own back yard (so to speak).
According to Tripadvisor, Blackburn has 10 top hotels and B&Bs to choose from, so we've created a list of the best properties to stay at in the town, ranked solely on traveller recommendations.

- The Millstone, Mellor - in at second with 631 reviews and also four and a half stars out of five is Mellor's The Millstone, which has rooms with breakfast included starting from £100 per night. Perfect for an out of town night away.
- Hampton by Hilton - coming third on the list, the newly opened Hampton by Hilton scores exactly the same as first and second placed hotels, but from just 14 reviews. With breakfast included in most packages and rooms starting at £69 per night, with a few more comments, this Blackburn hotel could soon bag the top spot.
- Fernhurst Lodge - situated on Blackburn Road close to Ewood Park, the Fernhurst received three and a half stars out of five from 234 reviews. Rooms start at £50 per night.
- The Willows - next up is the Willows on Haslingden Road, and with rooms from £50 per night, their four and a half stars out of five from just 66 reviews will make for a decent home away from home stay.
- Chimneys Guest House - the guest house on Preston New Road has rooms starting at £79 per night and with a four and a half star out of five rating, and with one guest even calling it 'the best cheap guest house in Blackburn', Chimneys could be the perfect place for a close-to-home getaway.
- The Feilden's Arms - guests have reviewed the food here as top notch, so if you're looking for somewhere to stay contact the venue themselves for prices and availability, but with four stars out of five it's hard to see why you wouldn't enjoy a stay at this Whalley Road property.
- Old Dad's Bar n - situated in Mellor, Old Dad's Barn also has four and a half stars out of five and has been rated 'excellent' in 23 of its 29 reviews on Tripadvisor. For availability, contact the venue directly.
- Oaklands Hotel - another Preston New Road property, guests rated Oaklands as three and a half stars out of five with one commenting: 'very nice host with a story or two to tell, helpful in every way plus a proper full English breakfast to set you on your day'. - Hill View Private Hotel - the Hill View only has two stars out of five but for people on a budget who are looking for a place to crash for a night at King George's Hall or need a stop-over on the way to destinations further afield, then this Preston New Road property will be perfect.
