A man is to appear in court after he spat at a police officer while being arrested.

The man was apprehended by British Transport Police on Preston train station on Friday for being drunk and disorderly.

While carrying out the arrest he spat at one of the officers and was further arrested for the offence of assault on an emergency worker.

A spokesperson for the police said: "A male who was arrested at Preston station for being drunk and disorderly was further dealt with for the offence of assault on an emergency worker after he spat at one of the officers.

"He was charged with both offences and bailed to court in July."
