Protesters gathered at the gates of BAE Systems for the second week running.
Coffins to signify the children killed through Israeli bombing of Gaza were left at the gates today. A picture of the teenager or child killed alongside a Palestinian flag was placed on top of each of the coffins.
The 69 cardboard coffins had been carried by young children and later baloons and flowers placed at the gates.
Over two hundred people mostly women and children turned out for the demonstration. Buses had been laid out at four spots in Blackburn with the event being supported by local mosques.
Organisers from the Lancashire Peace Forum (LPF) and local activists said they had only planned the ‘Palestine Funeral Procession’ outside BAE Systems, Samlesbury this week.
The event was supported by Friends of Al Aqsa, Manchester Palestine Solidarity Campaign and Oldham Peace and Justice.
The group said their aim was to highlight how UK firms are supplying weapons components to be used by Israel against Palestinians.
Regarding concerns over the sale of weapons components earlier this week a BAE Systems spokesperson had said: “Our activities are subject to compliance with international trade control requirements, including US and UK trade control regulations, and our own responsible business trading principles.”
