FORMER Blackburn Rovers goalkeeper Alan Miller has died aged 51.

Miller, who began his career at Arsenal, made 103 appearances for West Bromwich Albion and 64 for Middlesbrough, helping the Teesside club to promotion to the Premier League in 1995.

Miller then had spells at Birmingham City, Blackburn and St Johnstone before retiring in 2003 with a back injury.

Blackburn said on their website: "The thoughts of everyone at Blackburn Rovers are with Alan Miller's family and friends at this sad time.

"Known best for his time at West Bromwich Albion, Alan joined Rovers from the Baggies in early 2000.

"The goalkeeper appeared only once during his three years at Ewood Park, with that match coming in the League Cup second leg against Portsmouth at Fratton Park in September 2000. Rovers drew 1-1 on the night in Hampshire but progressed thanks to a 5-1 aggregate victory.

"The League Cup Final in 2002 would bring happy memories for Rovers and Miller, who was recalled from a loan spell at St Johnstone to provide cover on the bench at the Millennium Stadium following an injury to Alan Kelly."
