HOW MANY BLUE PLAQUES have you spotted around Blackburn on your travels?

These English Heritage blue plaques mark the homes, workplaces and locations that are linked to famous faces and notable historic dates.

The world's very first blue plaques were erected in London in the 19th century and this original scheme still survives today.

However, they have since been spread out to other towns and cities in the country- Lancashire included.

Blackburn’s blue plaque scheme used to be controlled by Blackburn Civic Society before the society folded several years ago.

If you are curious, we have created an interactive map detailing the locations of the blue plaques and why they were awarded to begin with.

We have also provided a bit of information about the famous faces and locations behind the blue plaque.

Sir Robert Peel, a British politician and industrialist and Jack Walker, the patron of Blackburn FC are just two of the people to be commemorated with a plaque.

Notable historical locations, such as BBC Radio Lancashire in Darwen Street, were also recognised with a plaque as this was the site of The Plug Drawing Riots.

Will you be embarking on a blue plaque tour this weekend?
