A 17-year-old boy was left unconscious and taken to hospital following a fight in Horwich.

Police said the teenager was taken to hospital following an 'altercation' between a group of boys at around 7pm on Tuesday in Rivington Lane.

Officers were called to reports of an assault and upon attendance, found a large group of young people gathered in the area.

A "physical altercation" then took place between a small number of the boys.

The 17-year-old who had been hurt during the incident was then taken to hospital for treatment.

Police said his injuries are not thought to be serious.

The spokesman added: "A 16-year-old boy from Bolton was arrested a short time later on suspicion of assault - GBH and affray. He remains in police custody.

"Our enquiries are very much ongoing and anybody who witnessed the incident, or has information about it, is asked to get in touch on 101, quoting log 1425 of June 1st."

A spokesman for the North West Ambulance Service said: "An ambulance and air ambulance responded to an incident on Rivington Lane, Horwich following a call at 19.00 on the 1st June.

"A patient was taken to hospital by road with a serious head injury."
