IT’S HALF TERM for kids across Lancashire and many will be eager to soak up the sunshine and take part in as many half term activities as possible.

Luckily, many local businesses are hosting family-friendly activities this half term meaning you will never run out of new things to do.

Here are nine activities and events taking place this half term that will suit all preferences and budgets.

1. Jurassic Adventure
Location:

Price: Adults and children £13.79. Kids under 12 months go free.

The Jurassic era has come to Mrs Downson’s Farm this half term- and the event is running until 6 June.

From cute baby dinosaurs and a teeth-gnashing T-Rex predator, Professor Livingstone and the Dinosaur rangers have their work cut out unloading the special cargo for the very first time,

The life-like puppets bring to life long-extinct creatures in an interactive and imaginative live show suitable for all the family.

Ticket prices include a 15-minute live sow, interactive baby dino experience and a photo opportunity.

However, if you want tickets for the rest of half term you will need to act quick as tickets are limited. Get them online.

2. Gruffalo baking session
Location:
Flavours Cookery School, Unit 15, The Sidings Business Park, Clitheroe
Price: £22 per child (additional sibling is £12.50). Adults go free.
What is it?:

This event allows your little ones to make their very own Gruffalo themed bakes.

Here, kids will make Gruffalo cupcakes, decorate owl biscuits and also make their own Gruffalo chocolate bark.

All ingredients & resources provided.

The 90 minute session is ideal for children (aged 2-10 years old).

The event is taking place on 3 June 9:30-1pm. You can get your tickets online.

Blackburn Museum and Art Gallery, Ewood, Blackburn
Price: Free
What is it?:

Fancy an affordable day out with the kids that will also engage their creativity?

There are a variety of crafty activities taking place at Blackburn’s museum including: a bird house, pin wheels and photo-frames.

They will provide each child with an activity pack, that can either be completed at the Museum or taken home and completed.

These free craft sessions are drop-in and are unsupervised by Museum staff.

They are aimed at children from toddler age to 12 years and all children must be supervised by an adult.

This half term event is taking place from Wednesday 2 June-Saturday 5 June from 12pm-4pm.

4. Own a pony day
Location:
Shores Hey Farm, Halifax Road, Briercliffe, Burnley
Price: £35 per person
What is it?

This event runs on 2 June and 5 June 10am-3pm.

Has your child ever wanted to own a pony for a day? Now is their chance as Shores Hey Farm is offering this exciting opportunity for your child or teenager (aged between 7-16 years) to spend time with our horsey experts and own a HAPPA pony for a day.

Learn the basics and understand what it really takes to care for a horse ensuring it stays fit and healthy.

5. Spend a day at the fair
Location:
Witton Country Park, Blackburn
Price: Entry to the fun fair is free and rides start from £2.
What is it?:

The fun fair in Witton Park returned to Blackburn on May 27, and will run throughout the half term, finishing on Sunday June 6.

It is open from 12 noon to 9pm from now until Saturday; Sunday times are from 12pm-7pm. 

And this year, to say thank you to all those who have worked relentlessly during the pandemic, there will be free rides for NHS staff.

6. The Sherwood Trail
Location: Mason Woods, Preston
Price: £2
What is it?:

This event is running until 7 June- and it’s cheap to enter.

It’s a two mile circular walk which starts and finishes at Sherwood Primary School. If you answer all questions correctly, you could win a £40 Barton Grange Flower Bowl voucher.

Anyone can take part and it’s a great way for kids of all ages to explore the Mason Woods.

7. Walpurgis night
Location:
Scare Kingdom Scream Park, Mrs Dowson’s Farm Park, Longsight Road, Clayton-le-Dale
Price: Best value tickets are available online and cost £13.00 (plus bf) per body.

Tickets can also be purchased on the door at £15.00.
What is it?:

This event is ideal for slightly older children (10+) who don’t mind a bit of a fright.

Walpurgis Night combines immersive theatre, horror and comedy with live scare actors and special effects for a truly chilling experience.

Follow in the footsteps of mALICE as you enter Manormortis – Underland, a twilight world inhabited by a carnivorous caterpillar and an insane Hatter.  A hoard of deadly denizens await you as you navigate through 23 rooms in search of escape.

Investigate a strange case of old London town, as you pay a visit to Brimstone & Black’s notorious funeral parlour in Body Snatchers – The Highgate Vampire.  Making his roost in the old undertakers, the legendary blood-sucker is on the hunt for blood in this scare maze experience.

8. Half term xplorer
Location:
Brockholes Nature Reserve, Preston
Price: £3.50 per pack
What is it?:

Every day for the rest of half term (1-6 June), Brockholes Nature Reserve is hosting the ‘half term xplorer challenge’- and you can still get tickets.

Here, you can explore the Brockholes, find the markers and compete in challenges together.

There are two courses available:

Challenge 1 

The markers you need to find are located on or next to surfaced paths and the route is pram friendly. The markers are in number order and form a circular route and is perfect for those who are new to Brockholes or to orienteering or visiting with younger children.  The markers will be Mythical Creatures!

Challenge 2

This course represents more of a challenge and you will need to use your navigation skills to track down the markers located across the reserve! Not suitable for prams.  The markers will be bird themed.

9. Towneley Hall activity days
Location:  Townley Hall, Burnley
Price: Entry is free for under 17s)
What is it?:

Towneley Hall is back open and there are plenty of affordable family activities to take part in while you are here.
