A body has been found in the search for a missing man.

Officers who were involved in the search for missing Alan Zawadski, who was last seen on May 1, sadly found a body.

Alan, 30, originally from Dundee in Scotland, was last seen at the beginning of May in the Islington area of London.

It is believed he had spoken to his mother on May 2 and told them he was travelling to her house in Preston, however, he never arrived.

A spokesperson for the police said: "On Thursday last week, our colleagues at Greater Manchester Police reported the discovery of the body of a man close to the Ashton Canal on Upper Helena Street, Manchester.

"Whilst he has yet to be formally identified, it is believed to be Alan.

"His family have been informed."

The death is not being treated as suspicious at this time and a file will be passed to HM Coroner.

The spokesperson added: "We would like to say a huge thanks to everyone who responded to our previous appeals in our search to find Alan.

"Our thoughts remain with his family and friends at this very sad time."
