A Curtis Poole hat-trick and two by Jordan Khan helped Longshaw win the title on the final day of the season.
Going into the final game of the season Longshaw needed a win, whilst Euro Garages only a draw to secure back-to-back championship wins.
What was meant to be cagey and nervy affair was nothing but as Longshaw eventually ran out 6-1 winners in the Blackburn Combination Premier League decide.
With Covid restrictions having put paid to four months of football, games were crammed into the months of April and May. Cup competitions were abandoned so this was the only trophy up for grabs for both sides.
In the past weekend EG had played two matches and won both to set up an exciting final day decider at Witton Park 4g pitch on Saturday. EG had won their previous encounter 2-0 played during Ramadan when most of the players were fasting so the onus was on Longshaw.
That draw EG craved seemed a long way off as Longshaw raced into a two-goal lead and the perfect start. EG managed to get a goal back through a penalty by Mark Slater but within a minute of the restart Longshaw had restored their two-goal cushion.
Despite a fifteen-minute period in the first half EG were never really in this game at all. Longshaw were quicker, hungrier, more focussed.
Any hopes of a comeback were dashed ten minutes into the second half as Longshaw smashed into a further two goals. A sixth goal on the break was exactly what Longshaw deserved on the day.
Curtis Poole may have taken the glory on the day his three fine taken goals but this was a team effort and Longshaw looked like scoring every time they broke. Corey Adams was the other scorer on the day helping Longshaw rack up 70 goals in the season. But it was at the other end the title was really won as Longshaw conceded only 12 goals all season.
It has been a long hard season for both sides who had to complete two to three matches a week to fulfil their fixtures.
Credit must go to officials from Blackburn Combination League who must be commended for ensuring the season concluded.
