There’s so much to enjoy in this photograph of The Boulevard, Blackburn from 1930.

On the left the statues of Victoria and Gladstone watch over proceedings from the cathedral ground as the crowds gather.

We think this may have been taken around the Wakes Weeks judging by the number of ‘charabancs’ - the large, open topped vehicles - lined up waiting for passengers.

Trams shared the Boulevard with buses at this stage and on the right you can see possibly the driver or conductor of the double-decker tram using a large pole to switch the connection to the correct power line before setting off
