Taken in 1989, this aerial view of Blackburn town centre shows many of the town’s most distinctive landmarks at the time. Bottom right is the station and in the foreground the cathedral and telephone exchange.
You can make out the bus stops on the Boulevard with the Lancashire Telegraph building and Morrison’s supermarket behind.
On the left is the curved roof of the market hall. Follow the canal on the right towards the top of the photo and you can see Eanam Wharf and you can also see the site of Thwaites Brewery complete with landmark tower over to the left.
