THAT’S a big bus in a very small space!

We came across this picture in the archives and hope that you enjoy it as much as we do.

Taken around 1966 or 1967 you are looking at the Ribble service that ran between Blackburn and the Ribble Valley.

The double-decker is parked outside Downham Post Office where it had a scheduled stop of three to four minutes before continuing on its way around the area - woe betide you if you were late as they bus didn’t wait.

Perhaps the bus experts out there can tell us if it was unusual to have a double decker on what was essentially a rural route - you wonder how the driver managed around some of the country roads complete with overhanging trees.
