A 35-year-old man has been ordered to pay more than £400 after he purchased a train ticket using a discount card only valid for people aged between 16 and 25.
Imran Khan was asked to produce his ticket when he arrived at Manchester Piccadilly on December 22.
Inspectors at the station then noted that the ticket had been bought with a discount which is only valid for people who are aged between 16 and 25 and who own a valid railcard.
Court documents state that when Khan, who had travelled from Blackburn station, was asked to produce the accompanying railcard, he stated that he had lost his wallet with the card in it.
His details were obtained and he was advised the facts would be reported. Following the incident, a letter was sent to the defendant requesting an explanation, as there was no response, a Fixed Penalty Notice was then sent.
The FPN remains unpaid.
The avoided fare was £11.40.
Khan, of Balaclava Street, was fined £220, told to pay compensation of £11.40, ordered to pay £34 surcharge into the victim fund and must pay costs of £150.
That must be paid by June 11.
