FOR thousands of youngsters across East Lancashire, being in the Cubs or Scouts will remain a long-lasting memory.

In spite of the problems posed by more than a year of restrictions the Scouting movement remains one of the most popular organisations for young people offering a healthy mix of education, activities and above all comradeship.

Many Cubs and Scouts will have kept in touch with those friends they made either meeting once a week in a draughty church hall or heading off for an adventure to camp - often Bowley in Great Harwood - which for many would have been their first time spending the night away from home.

We have been back into the archives to dig out some photographs of Scouts and Cubs from the late 1980s enjoying different aspects of being part of the movement.

Maybe you are on one of the pictures or perhaps you recognise someone who is.

If you have Scouting memories to share, email them and any pictures to bygones@nqnw.co.uk.
