POLICE were called to Whalley New Road in Blackburn after reports of a man walking down the street carrying a hammer and a large kitchen knife.
Blackburn magistrates heard when officers confronted Zakir Hussain he refused to co-operate and had to be taken to the ground.
The knife was discovered in his pocket and the hammer was found nearby.
Hussain, 25, of Whalley New Road, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to possession of a bladed article in Beechwood Road.
He was sent in custody to Preston Crown Court to be sentenced after the court heard he had a similar conviction in 2019 and was also in breach of a Crown Court suspended sentence.
Tess Kenyon, prosecuting, said members of the public reported seeing a man armed with a knife and a hammer walking down the road at 10.30pm.
After he had been detained by the police Hussain said he was dropping the implements off at a friend's house.
"He wouldn't say who the friend was or where he lived," said Miss Kenyon.
"He said his friend needed the implements to do some work but wouldn't give any further details."
