A NEW clothing brand will be bringing out modest gym wear for female customers — alongside its catchy slogan T-shirts.

Wear Tae is run by Blackburn filmmaker and photographer Aeman Ali Afzal, who wanted to venture into the fashion industry while giving the town something different.

As well as modest gym wear, Wear Tae stocks everyday gym clothes for men and women and creative T-shirts and sweaters with witty captions.

He said: “I have always had a passion for fashion and being creative.

“I try to look trendy myself, but I don’t always hit the mark.

“We get a lot of people engaging with us on social media, they like the phrases. I will say something, and someone will say you need to put that on a T-shirt, so I did.”

The clothing company has been running since December last year after initially being delayed since the start of the pandemic.

Mr Afzal said: It’s doing really well for a small company and has had a lot of following in Scotland especially, which is strange.

“I enjoy photography and film, so this is more of a side project.”

Mr Afzal used to work at Blackburn Youth Zone teaching filmmaking and now runs his own production company.

Phrases on the clothes include ‘just turn up’ and ‘Will you be my quarantine?’, as well as things for other photographers such as ‘Everyone is a photographer until…’

He said: “It’s stuff that is also relevant to other creatives out there, because I was always looking for fashionable clothes for photographers and filmmakers, so I wanted to create that."

The gym wear collection will be released in the coming months, with all kinds of gym clothing, including the modest line.

Mr Afzal said: “There is a big Asian market in Blackburn especially for many Asian women who are worried about finding the perfect gym gear that is permissible for them.

“They cannot wear a shalwar kameez, so have created breathable pieces that are practical and stylish as well as modest, such as longer tops and looser fits.

“Growing up I also lived in a house with nine women, and they were always looking for appropriate gym wear.”

Wear Tae want to also target other creatives in fields such as beauty with T-shirts for make-up artists to wear.

Mr Afzal said: We want to make this brand for everyone.

"We decided on gym wear because it’s always in and relevant, especially after a lockdown when people are really looking to get back into fitness."
